Environmental Education Ireland

Environmental education in Ireland is a rapidly growing area. However it is often perceived as a vague term that encompasses many ways of teaching and a myriad of subjects and themes. With children and society becoming more and more sedentary and less aware of the biological and natural systems that support life, the need for it is increasing.

To support and share the great work being done in Ireland, we decided to set up Environmental Education Ireland in 2013. We started with a small Facebook group which has been slowly growing ever since, and now are delighted to host the third annual Irish ‘Festival of Outdoor Learning’.

As the challenges that we face in the world grow ever more complex, the education platforms and systems we create for students must rise to the challenge of providing the skills they will need in the future. To do this, we as educators must constantly raise our game, refine our skills and reflect on our teaching practice.

For us that is what EEI and the festival are all about. If you feel the same, we would love to see you there. It will be a bit of craic and you might just learn a new skill or two. You could meet some weird and wonderful people who to share ideas and experiences with, or sit in a tree for the duration, whatever floats your boat.
